American manufacturer of fuselages Spirit AeroSystems Holdings, a supplier to Boeing Co., stated that it "doubts strongly" its ability to continue operations. In particular, the company cited losses over the past three years and debt of around $4.4 billion as of September 26th. The size of cash and equivalents shrank to $217.6 million on that date compared to $823.5 million at the end of last year.
"The company will require additional liquidity to continue operations in the next 12 months," notes Spirit.
In the summer, it was reported that Boeing had agreed to buy Spirit for an estimated $8.3 billion. Without taking into account the debt, the supplier was valued at $4.7 billion. Strengthening the liquidity of Spirit will depend in part on the deal with Boeing, according to the producer of fuselages. In October, it announced that it still expected to close the transaction by mid-next year.
The leadership of Spirit is also considering issuing securities, attracting debt, and restructuring operations, including staff reduction.
"However, there are no guarantees that these plans and strategies will allow us to significantly optimize our liquidity needs or that we will otherwise be able to realize the expected benefits," says the company.
